Recycle Zone is one of a number of activities we’re under-taking to reduce our carbon footprint. We know there’s lots to do, but every step we take will help. Some of the things we’ve been up to recently include:
|
Packaging: We’ve reduced the weight of our bottles by 20% and our new can design saves 1,200 tonnes of aluminium. Better still, all the cans we put on the market contain around 50% recycled aluminium, and our glass bottles around 30% recycled glass. We’re working really hard to include 25% recycled PET in our plastic bottles, in Great Britain, by the end of 2010. |
|
| |
Recycling: We recycle as much of our own waste as possible – and we’re up to 97% across all our manufacturing sites |
| |
Water Use: We’ve developed our own three R’s for water use – reducing our use of water, recycling the water we do use, and replenishing the water we use as appropriate. We currently use 1.54 litres of water for every litre of soft drink we create, but we’re aiming to get that down to 1.5, just as soon as we can. |
| |
Carbon footprinting: We’ve just finished some cutting-edge work with the Carbon Trust to develop the carbon footprint of a can of Coca-Cola. We know that packaging is a key part of the footprint, so if we can increase the recycled content and increase recycling we can reduce the rate. Now we know what the footprint is, we can work with our partners to reduce it. |
