We all want to do our bit for the environment, and we all try to recycle at home and work where we can. But recycling your drink cans and bottles while out and about, whether at the shops or commuting to work, is a really easy way to do that little bit more.
At Coca-Cola we know the importance of packaging - we produce over 4 billion cans, bottles and pouches each year, and reckon that a number of these are consumed outside the home. We recognize that we have a responsibility to help you recycle those soft drink containers and Recycle Zone will help you do just that.
Using Recycle Zones to increase recycling of soft drink cans and bottles will save energy and natural resources, reduce emission of greenhouse gasses, reduce litter on the streets and the pressure on local landfill sites.
We want to be able to use more of this recycled material, in the next can of coke, or bottle of juice that you drink. This is called ‘closed loop recycling’ and really reduces the environmental impact of our soft drink containers.
Our drinks cans contain around 50% recycled content and glass bottles contain 40% recycled glass, and we are working hard to get better and better at this. We have set a target for all of our plastic PET bottles across Great Britain and Europe to contain an average of 25% recycled PET by the end of 2010.
